When applying labels, the utmost precision is essential. This was also the case with a label for a new component from a manufacturer of sanitary technology products. MiniTec therefore worked with NOVEXX Solutions to implement a semi-automated labelling solution that ensures precisely this.

The customer's taps, showers and shower systems are known for their attractive design and high quality and are used in many buildings. The company is also characterised by a high level of innovation, which also benefits the installers. For example, a particularly practical base unit was developed for the flush-mounted installation of water control in bathrooms.

Aiming for a semi-automatic system
When installing the base unit, it is important that it is correctly aligned in the wall. To ensure this, there is a sticker on it that shows the installation in pictures and also serves as a guide for correct positioning. This in turn makes it necessary for the label to be applied to the base unit with the utmost precision.

The customer therefore commissioned NOVEXX Solutions from Eching in Bavaria with an automated labelling system to apply the sticker to the plaster cap of the base body. The company specialises in marking and labelling solutions and offers numerous products in this field. The XLS 206 labelling system proved to be the ideal solution for the requirement for a complete solution.

The labelling system impresses with its compact design and can also be moved.

Hand in hand
However, this only takes care of the labelling process as such - what was needed was a complete solution that covers the entire process from product infeed to handling, labelling and outfeed. This is why NOVEXX brought MiniTec on board as a project partner. The two companies have been working together successfully for many years. MiniTec had the task of implementing an automated system based on the NOVEXX labeller.

Clear specifications for processes and cycle times
The customer formulated its requirements for the overall process and the associated key figures in a specification sheet. The throughput time for the complete processing of a product should be a maximum of 12 seconds. Occupational health and safety also played a role - the noise level of the system was not to exceed 80 dB(A).

MiniTec worked closely with the customer and NOVEXX to realise the desired complete solution. It is positioned between two manual workstations. The base body is assembled at the first workstation. From here, the employee places it on the conveyor belt of the labelling system, which also serves as a buffer section - there is space for up to eight components.

Now the process begins. First, the component is automatically transported to the labelling station. There the label is applied in the centre also automatically. The finished base body is then conveyed out of the station and removed manually at the removal station.

High process reliability and flexibility
After commissioning, the customer was extremely satisfied with the solution. It ensures high positioning accuracy of the labels as well as efficient and smooth processes. At the same time it is designed to be extremely easy to maintain not least due to the MiniTec profile construction kit as the basis for the design. The individual areas of the system are easily accessible for servicing, and all assemblies and wear parts can be easily replaced.

The successful implementation is also the result of a well-functioning partnership, as the know-how and expertise of NOVEXX Solutions as a labelling specialist and MiniTec as an automation expert complemented each other perfectly in the implementation of the system.

The conveyor belt also serves as a buffer section.
